Elspec recently supplied several G4500 portable units and software packages for detection and isolation of failures for their electricity lab. This installation includes hardware server and cellular network.

Panama Canal | Elspec has installed 48 G4k BLACKBOX units, together with real time compensation systems, which are used to measure and improve the power quality of the electrical network. All the data is collected locally and transferred, both to Elspec central analysis data center (located at the canal control) and to their existing SCADA system. See reference letter (For more on the Panama Canal and shipping).

Wind Turbine Manufacturers | Elspec has installed approximately 700+ special real-time Equalizer compensation systems in a range of 1MVAr-2MVAr that all comply with tough grid code requirements of the wind turbine industry. These units supply both a PFC and ride through solution utilizing an immediate connection of large amounts of capacitors in all turbines in the farm. The specific solution assists the network to overcome voltage drop in order to avoid disconnection of the unit from the network and/or the wind farm. (For more Wind Turbine Installations)

Railway Operators | Electric rail lines have long power distribution systems and rapid load changes leading to substantial voltage drops and voltage flickering. Elspec power quality solutions have been able to revolutionize the railway industry by enhancement of usable capacity (no. of trains, loco. power), provide voltage support to the distribution network, boost trains’ speed, stabilize network power, prevent low power factor penalties, minimize system losses and maintenance costs, and increase network loading capabilities. Spot Welding | Spot welding loads fluctuate extremely rapidly and consume large amounts of reactive power. Due to high current changes caused by the near- instantaneous reactive energy consumption, large voltage drops are produced. These sags reduce weld quality and decrease welding productivity. Additionally, these loads often create a high incidence of voltage flickering, which frequently exceeds recommended IEEE limits. Elspec systems compensate for all reactive energy requirements for each network cycle, reduce voltage flicker, filter harmonics, improve weld quality, increase process output and provide voltage control. Plastic Factories | Due to widely varying unsynchronized load conditions, plastic injection molding applications have rapid and inconsistent reactive energy requirements. Power supply failure during a production cycle can cause enormous financial and physical damage caused by plastic cooling inside the machines. Elspec’s solution reduces overall system energy losses and drastically reduces the risk for such an event by stabilizing the current and voltage levels in the facility on a cycle-by-cycle basis. Cranes | The complete operation cycle of harbor cranes is approximately one minute. During this time, the crane requires variable amounts of reactive energy, fluctuating rapidly throughout the entire crane cycle. Elspec’s systems are able to stabilize the voltage, reducing the current, allowing installation of a smaller service (less cable, less heat), lowering system losses and overall saving of energy.
